Kenneth Snelson Models:
Excerpts from a Sculptor's "Sketchbook"

Last revision: September 30, 2009

In my correspondence with Kenneth Snelson, he sent me several photographs that I didn't have room for on my tensegrity websites, so I will post them here since I think they are of interest. These are unusual sketches and harken back to his early X-Piece with its complex compression X's. These complex compression components contrast with the simple struts he has used in most of his tensegrity work since 1959. Thanks to Ken for providing his photographs of these examples from his work that wouldn't normally be exhibited — excerpts from a sculptor's "sketchbook."

For more information on Kenneth Snelson on my tensegrity site, see the Bead Arch (1959), Tall Tale (San Diego, 1976), Snelson's Planar Pieces and Philip Stewart pages from my Synergetics Gallery. See also Kenneth Snelson's website and of course the other "sketchbook."
