Rubble Women: The second world war made millions of
women into widows. Many of the surviving German soldiers
returned home over ten years after the end of the war.
In the meantime, the women worked for the support of
their families and the rebuilding of their cities.
The accomplishment of the 'Trümmerfrauen' is
admired and commonly acknowledged.
