Mothers of the Constitution: Only four women sat among
the 65 members of the parliamentary deliberations which
drafted a new democratic constitution for the Federal Republic
of Germany. Next to HELENE WESSEL,
HELENE WEBER and FRIEDERIKE NADIG, ELISABETH SELBERT deserved
the most credit for the constitutional guarantee
of equal rights for women.
