International Women's Day: Originally a day to fight for
the right to vote for women, March 8th later became
a day of remembrance and also a day of demonstrations
for equal opportunity and solidarity. The text of a
poster of the time read:
Give Women the Right to Vote
Women's Day
March 8, 1914
Women, who as workers, mothers and citizens of their communities
fully fulfill their duties, who must pay taxes to the state
as well as the community, up until now have been denied the
the full rights of citizenship by prejudice and a reactionary
mentality. The seizure of this natural human right must be the
unshakable, firm intention of every woman and working woman.
Here there can be no rest or repose. Come all women and girls
to the
9 Public Women's Congresses
taking place on Sunday the 8th of March
at 3 O'Clock in the afternoon
