With ANNEMARIE RENGER a woman became president of the Bundestag
for the first time. Since 1988, RITA SÜSSMUTH has held
this position. ANTJE VOLLMER, an evangelical theologian,
and since 1983 a representative for the Green Party
(Grünen) in parliament, has been vice-president of the
German Bundestag since 1994. CORNELIA SCHMALZ-JACOBSEN,
a former journalist and radio reporter is a representative
of the Free Democrats and has been the foreign minister
for the federal government since 1991.
