The boring operation has stopped for good. The third time the drill struck impenetrable schist on the 580 foot section parallel to Tarapaca Road, the county and the contractor decided to dig the remaining 100 feet with an excavator. This in spite of the difficulty digging to a depth of 38 feet with excavators that only dig to a depth of 25 feet. Here’s the current status, beginning at the low end:

The completion date? Some say the last of May; I'm going to wait and see.
