The boring operation has stopped for good. The third time the drill struck impenetrable schist on the 580 foot section parallel to Tarapaca Road, the county and the contractor decided to dig the remaining 100 feet with an excavator. This in spite of the difficulty digging to a depth of 38 feet with excavators that only dig to a depth of 25 feet. Here’s the current status, beginning at the low end:

Complete (sewer tile laid & casing filled with sand):

• The short section from the Rue La Charlene connection to the first manhole.
• The 460 foot section from the second manhole through the third manhole to the fourth manhole.

Remaining to be excavated:

• The short section between the first and the second manholes.
• The longer, curved section connecting the fourth manhole and the fifth manhole.
• The deep section discussed in the first paragraph and the short section tying in to the final manhole at the end of Tarapaca.
• Construction of the 5th, 6th and 7th manholes themselves.

The completion date? Some say the last of May; I'm going to wait and see.
