The Eyes in the Dark

The night I had picked to go to the show was dark and cloudy and I felt certain it was going to storm. The sharp, bright lightening pierced the inky blackness of the night while the deafening thunder following it seemed like some giant bowling.

Wind began shrieking around the house and through the tall swaying trees brought many heavy branches down from the enormous oak trees surrounding our house. Finally it became time to leave for the show so I put on my rain coat and started on my way. Since it had already begun to sprinkle I decided I would take a short cut which was spooky even in the day time but I would get there sooner and I didn't want to get soaked. Starting down the mysterious lane I thought I heard a noise as if something were following me but I encouraged myself by saying it was only my imagination. It did not take me long to find there was something behind me for I looked behind and saw two green points of light that were probably the eyes of some man-eating wild animals, at least to me they appeared to be that. With the lightening flashing all around and all objects casting weird shadows I could by that time imagine anything. To escape this horrible creature I quickly dashed to the nearest tree and hid. When I did this the animal changed it's course and came straight toward me and I ran into woods hoping I could lose it in the maze of trees and bushes. Before long I tripped over my raincoat and fell head-long into a big mud puddle but finally sat up and looked fearfully around to see if it were still following me. There were the two shining eyes but I was too exhausted to move so I laid there and waited for it. The creature came up to me and was making a purring noise while it licked me and then I saw that it was our cat.
