Leatherboard Pond
I didn't do much drawing in Shirley during the summer of 1997. This is the first picture during the fall. The tree colors make this an interesting time to draw. This is a view of Leatherboard Pond which is fairly close to where I live. It is a dragonfly hangout. I only managed to include it in my survey just last summer and found some interesting denizens. It is another mill pond. The dam is at the right of the picture and I am looking across it to Leominster Road and an abandoned house beyond. I later did a drawing of a Snack Bar down the road which must have serviced people who used this pond as a swimming hole.
Once someone brought a sample of leatherboard to a meeting of the Shirley Historical Society. It's somewhat like cardboard attempting to be leather.
