World War Memorial (1917 1918). Shirley Village, Mass.
This was originally located on an island at the intersection of Lancaster and Harvard Roads and, along with the police station, helped to mark the place where I turned from Lancaster Road on to Harvard Road to get to my apartment. It had been moved there from a location on Main Street some time back.
The eagle is mounted on a huge boulder which was cut by Arthur Jubb, the Town's Highway Surveyor at that time, in the 1930's from a quarry off Townsend Road. At this point, the eagle and its boulder had been in their new location in Whiteley Park off Front Street for a year or so.
