A somewhat aged cardinal flower

The Last of the Cardinal Flowers along Catecunemaug Brook

I'm always glad to see this wetland plant in blossom. This particular specimen grows along Catecunemaug Brook in Shirley, Massachusetts's Fredonian Park. I caught this blossom at the end of the flowering season. Fortunately there were more the next summer.

This was done with conté crayon or chalk with a wash of green watercolor for the background.
