Drawings

by Bob Burkhardt

Last revision: January 28, 2008

What follows is a fairly comprehensive list of the oil pastel drawings I've done along with some other drawings. I've left out some of the miscellaneous drawings and most of the small-format drawings in pencil, chalk, oil pastel and conté crayon. All the large-format landscapes are included. The landscapes are grouped by location. The pictures can be accessed at random individually using the table below, or in sequence (in the same order as in the outline below) within a category using the links provided on each picture. Chronology determined how the pictures were ordered. Selecting the projector lamp image will always get you back to this page.

Explanatory captions accompany each picture. There are many fond memories, mostly of the interactions I had with people while doing them. I guess if I were more professional I would do my best to fend them off, but I find their interest is one of the charms of working on the spot (or `en plein air' to use the French term). I look upon my drawings as the result of structured meditations on various locations, and as a sort of metaphysical acupuncture.

Shirley and Vicinity

I wish to thank Meredith Marcinkewicz of the Shirley Historical Society for her kind assistance in providing historical background for some of the buildings and memorials in the Shirley pictures. For a map showing where the Shirley drawings were done click here.
