Volunteer Work

I am currently working on Wikisource (en.wikisource.org) developing electronic versions of several old encyclopedias. I also develop electronic versions of text and images relating to Carl Schurz and others. I use this information in Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org) articles as seems appropriate, and supplement it with information from local public and college libraries and my own library. As my language skills and interests permit, I work on Wikipedias for languages besides English, and on the German Wikisource.

I have been a member of the Shirley Conservation Commission since 1992. I am responsible for the Commission's website (www.shirley-ma.gov/conservation). The website has all the Commission's annual reports and all the agendas of recent years. I developed several things for the Shirley Historical Society website, mostly electronic implementations of existing print documents, but also an interactive map for identifying points of interest in Shirley. I volunteer at the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge doing field work. I maintain several websites (www.trip.net/~bobwb for example) with information relevant to various things I am interested in.
